On July 19, FPRI President Harvey Sicherman delivered an impromptu briefing at FPRI on the Middle East crisis. A former aide to three U.S. secretaries of state, Dr. Sicherman examined the Israel-Lebanon-Gaza war as Round 3 in the struggle between the U.S. and Iran over the future direction of the Middle East, or, to put it another way, between the forces for democracy and the forces for theocracy. On November 15th at the FPRI annual dinner Fouad Ajami was presented with the Seventh Annual Benjamin Franklin Public Service Award. The event was attended by over 360 people.
Dr. John M. Templeton, Jr. was dinner chairman.
