Tom Mueller

History Education Fellow - Education Program

Dr. Tom Mueller is a Professor at the Department of Earth Sciences at the California University of Pennsylvania, where he has taught since 1999. He co-created and is the advisor for the Geography Major with a concentration in Geographic Information Technology. His interests include Geographic Information Systems (Computer Mapping), geography education, and world regional geography. He is especially interested in applying spatial theory to the real world with the use of  Geographic Information Systems (GIS). 

Over the years, Dr. Mueller has taught numerous GIS workshops to university faculty, high school teachers, and local community members. He is a Certified User of the Afghanistan Spatial Data Center (ASDC) and created a student certification for the ASDC. He has also developed and published a set of lessons – “Ukraine and Language and Holodomor: Three Issues to Examine (High School Edition)” for Harvard University’s Ukrainian Research Institute’s MAPA Program. This lesson set won the 2019 Holodomor Research and Education Consortium (HREC) Prize for Holodomor Lesson Development.
