William H. McNeill

William H. McNeill is the Robert A. Millikan Distinguished Service Professor Emeritus of History at the University of Chicago. In 1964, McNeill received the National Book Award for the now-classic volume The Rise of the West: A History of the Human Community. His many other published works include Plagues and Peoples; The Pursuit of Power: Technology, Armed Force, and Society since A.D. 1000; Mythistory and Other Essays; and History of Western Civilization: A Handbook.  Professor McNeill keynoted FPRI’s first History Institute on “America and The Idea of the West.”
