Aaron Rock-Singer is a social and intellectual historian of contemporary Islam. He is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Perry World House. He received his B.A from the University of Pennsylvania, his M.Phil from St. Antony’s College, Oxford, and his Ph.D from Princeton’s Department of Near Eastern Studies. At Princeton, Dr. Rock-Singer’s dissertation explored the emergence of the Islamic Revival in Sadat’s Egypt (1970-1981) and drew on Islamic magazines, audiocassette sermons, and television programs to chart the key projects and players within this religious shift. His research more broadly concerns the relationship between religion and politics in the Middle East as it is negotiated by state institutions, Muslim Brothers, and Salafis.
