Program on Teaching the Middle East and 9/11

The Foreign Policy Research Institute sponsored webcasts on what students should know about 9/11 in 2007 and 2008. School classes viewed webcasts live online, and students participated in question-and-answer periods which followed. The speakers were drawn from FPRI’s Center on Terrorism, Counterterrorism, and Homeland Security.

2008 Session 1

This session features an interview with Lawrence Husick, FPRI Senior Fellow specializing in the study of terrorist tactics and counterterrorism strategies, with a particular focus on the use of technology in terrorism. He has taught at the University of Pennsylvania and at the Johns Hopkins University. He is also co-director of FPRI’s Project on Teaching Innovation.

2008 Session 2

This session features an interview with Adam Garfinkle, editor of The American Interest magazine. He served as speechwriter to the Secretary of State from 2003 to 2005. His essay “How We Misunderstand Terrorism,” is available as an FPRI E-note, September 2008.

2007 Sessions

The first session features commentary from Stephen Gale and Harvey Sicherman. The second features commentary from Michael Radu and Lawrence Husick.
