A nation must think before it acts.
Just back from six weeks in Azerbaijan, FPRI’s Michael Reynolds will explore the critical if largely unknown role that Azerbaijan plays on the world scene. A secular Muslim state bordering Russia and Iran, possessing vast energy resources, engaged in a decades-long dispute with Armenia over Nagorno Karabakh, Azerbaijan beckons the US but how should the US engage?
Michael Reynolds is a Senior Fellow in FPRI's Program on the Middle East and an Associate Professor in Princeton’s Department of Near Eastern Studies and author of the prizewinning volume Shattering Empires: The Clash and Collapse of the Ottoman and Russian Empires, 1908-1918 (Cambridge University Press, 2011). Reynolds works on contemporary issues related to Turkey, the Kurds, Azerbaijan, and the North Caucasus.
