The Recognition of Palestine: What’s Next?
In the aftermath of the UN vote to recognize Palestine as a non-member state, the question is: Which direction will Mahmoud Abbas, President of Palestine, take? Will he move to prosecute Israel before the International Criminal Court, in which case there will be no peace process, or will he seek to reopen negotations without preconditions? If he chooses the latter, then the proposal of Israeli scholar Asher Susser for "coordinated unilateralism" offers a constructive way to move toward a two-state solution.
You can read the write-up of Susser's September 2012 FPRI lecture here, as presented at the Radison Plaza Warwick Hotel in Philadelphia on September 13, 2012.
