John Fonte

Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute

In Sovereignty or Submission, John Fonte examines the conflict between global governance and American constitutional democracy, seeing in that conflict the threat that U.S. law will be subordinated to international law and thereby reduce American sovereignty.

John Fonte is a senior fellow and director of the Center for American Common Culture at the Hudson Institute. His writing has been published in the United States, Canada, Europe, Australia, Israel, and Latin America, and he has appeared on CNN, MSNBC, BBC, France 24, and other news outlets. He has testified before Congress on citizenship issues and has advised the states of California, Texas, and Virginia on civic education. Dr. Fonte’s analysis of “lawfare” was listed among the most noteworthy ideas of 2004 in the New York Times Magazine’s “The Year in Ideas: A to Z.” He received a Ph.D. in world history from the University of Chicago.
