FPRI Senior Fellow Rens Lee will be a short-term fellow at the Kennan Institute starting January 2009, working on the project “Evaluating U.S.-Russian Nuclear Security Cooperation.” Dr. Lee’s short piece, “Engaging Cuba,” appears in the Nov./Dec. issue of Foreign Affairs.

FPRI is pleased to report that its Senior Fellow Edward Turzanski has been appointed to a new task force created by Mayor Michael Nutter to evaluate city ethics policies and recommend fixes to Philadelphia's five-year-old campaign-finance law. The panel will be chaired by former federal prosecutor Michael Schwartz, now with the Pepper Hamilton law firm. Other task force members are: Nolan Atkinson of the Duane Morris law firm; Stephanos Bibas of the University of Pennsylvania Law School; Heidi Gold of Ross Associates; Brian McCormick of the Sheller law firm; Elizabeth McElroy, political director of the Philadelphia Council AFL-CIO; Al Mezzaroba, former CEO of the Convention Center; and Stephanie Resnick of the Fox Rothschild law firm..

On May 8–9, FPRI hosted the 8th Transatlantic Editors Roundtable, “Reviving Transatlantic Cooperation: A Roundtable on Terrorism, International Order, and Global Challenges.” These roundtables are held biannually and include transatlantic foreign affairs journal editors. FPRI co-sponsored the event with the Center for Applied Policy Research in Munich; the German Marshall Fund and Commonwealth of Pennsylvania supported the event. On November 15th at the FPRI annual dinner Fouad Ajami was presented with the Seventh Annual Benjamin Franklin Public Service Award. The event was attended by over 360 people.
