Encounter Books Publishes Michael Radu’s Europe’s Ghost

FPRI is pleased to announce the publication of Europe's Ghost, Tolerance, Jihadism, and the Crisis of the West, by the late Michael Radu.

In this 772-page volume, Dr. Radu offers a fresh look at the rise of radical Islam in Europe, its impact on Europe´s culture and future, and the implications for the United States.

“That Europe is now a major incubator and exporter of Islamist terrorism should be a wake-up call” to the United States, he said. Dr. Radu warned presciently that “European ghosts have ways of crossing the ocean.” Since he penned those words, we have seen the massacre at Fort Hood, the attempted attack by “the underwear bomber,” and the recently thwarted plans to attack the New York City subway system.

Military analyst Ralph Peters says of Europe’s Ghost that it “combines impeccable scholarship with moral integrity and intellectual clarity,” avoiding “both hysteria and political correctness.”

Dr. Radu, who passed away in 2009, was a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute and co-chairman of its Center on Terrorism and Counterterrorism. He was also a National Peace Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. Dr. Radu studied political violence for decades and possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of terrorist groups worldwide.
