FPRI’s Walter McDougall’s Latest Book Reviewed by FPRI’s William Hay

“The Progressive social gospel of the late 19th century joined the project of methodical reform through government by technocrats with an older Protestant movement against social evils. Woodrow Wilson used it, Walter McDougall persuasively argues in his new book, The Tragedy of U.S. Foreign Policy, to recast American civil religion as a fighting faith from its more restrained earlier form.”
