Gene Cunningham is vice president, Global Sales for Defense, Space & Security (BDS), responsible for leading global sales as well as acting as the BDS liaison with the Boeing International team. He reports to Tom Bell, BDS vice president, Global Sales & Marketing.
Cunningham’s previous assignment was vice president of Global Services. During his career with Boeing he has served in program management roles as vice president, Global Services & Support – Middle East; vice president, Boeing Military Aircraft – Saudi Arabia; vice president and program director, V-22 Osprey; director for AH-64 Apache international programs; and program manager for the Finland F/A-18 Hornet program in both St. Louis and Helsinki, Finland.
As a business development manager for the company, Cunningham has been the vice president for both the Rotorcraft Systems and Army Systems business units. He also led the Europe/Israel business development team for all defense products. He has been a Washington, D.C. office representative for domestic and international military programs and a field representative for the C-17 Globemaster III program in Dayton, Ohio.
Cunningham has been awarded the prestigious “Wings of Honor” by the Finnish Air Force. He is an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, a member of Phi Beta Gamma (business honor society) and an advisory board member for the Saint Louis University and Lindenwood University business schools. From 2010 to 2013 he was the head of the U.S. delegation to the NATO Industrial Advisory Group.
Joining the company in 1979, Cunningham began his career at Boeing as an aerodynamics stability and control engineer on commercial and military programs. He holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical and aerospace engineering from Cornell University and an Executive Masters degree in international business from Saint Louis University. He also has attended the U.S. Department of Defense’s Defense Systems Management College and the Defense Institute for Security Assistance Management. Cunningham was recognized as the Saint Louis University International Business School Alumni of the Year in 2005.
