PRESENTING AN FPRI SPONSORS’ FORUM
Hosted by Pepper Hamilton LLP

Monday, June 9, 2014; 12:00 - 1:30 pm

Europe is currently witnessing an unprecedented mobilization of its young Muslim citizens and residents flocking to Syria to join various jihadist outfits fighting Bashar al Assad’s regime. The estimated two thousand and more Europeans fighting there encompass veteran al Qaeda militants but increasingly also teenagers, new converts and young women. Will the battle-hardened jihadists who will make their way back pose a threat to the Old Continent? And how are European authorities dealing with the issue? The presentation will outline the current dynamics of jihadism in Europe, analyzing radicalization patterns, potential threats and governmental responses.
