DoranIn this talk, author Michael Doran explores the Suez Crisis of 1956 – one of the key events in the history of U.S. relations with the Middle East – and offers a new understanding of the lessons President Eisenhower drew from the crisis, and what those lessons mean for America’s role in the Middle East then – and now. Doran served as a senior director for the National Security Council, a senior advisor in the State Department, and as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense. A member of FPRI’s Board of Advisors, he appears regularly in national broadcast and print media to comment on contemporary developments in the Middle East.

Doran is the author of Ike’s Gamble: America’s Rise to Dominance in the Middle East. Books will be on sale at the event or are available for purchase here.
