About the Event

Drawing on her book in progress, Democracy and Dictatorship in Europe: From the Ancien Regime to the Present Day (Oxford University Press), Berman will discuss the recent rise of populism and authoritarianism in Europe, with a look back at the authoritarian movements of the 20th century. She is author of The Primacy of Politics: Social Democracy and the Making of Europe’s Twentieth Century, and publishes regularly in Foreign Affairs, The Washington Post, and the Journal of Democracy. She received her Ph.D. in Government from Harvard University.
