Anit Mukherjee

Dr. Anit Mukherjee was an FPRI Senior Fellow in the Program on National Security and is an assistant professor at the S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies. Prior to moving to RSIS he served as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for the Advanced Study of India (2012-2013) and as a Research Fellow at the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses (IDSA), New Delhi (2010-2012). Previously he has also worked at the Brookings Institution and as a Summer Associate at the RAND Corporation. He has conducted extensive research and writing on defense reforms, counterinsurgency, and the foreign and defense policies in India. His writing has appeared in, among other outlets, The New York TimesThe Wall Street Journal (Asia)RUSI JournalIndia ReviewTimes of India, and Indian Express. A former Major in the Indian Army, where he served in numerous command and staff appointments, Anit is an alumnus of India’s National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla. He holds a Ph.D. from the School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), Johns Hopkins University, where his dissertation focussed on civil-military relations and military effectiveness in India.
