Beth Baron is Professor of History at City College, City University of New York, specializing in Middle Eastern history, Egyptian history, and women’s history. Her books include Egypt as a Woman: Nationalism, Gender and Politics (University of California Press); The Women’s Awakening in Egypt: Culture, Society and the Press (Yale University Press); and Women in Middle Eastern History: Shifting Boundaries in Sex and Gender), edited with Nikkie Keddie (Yale University Press).
