Debbie Sharnak is a Senior Fellow in Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Center for the Study of America and the West and an Assistant Professor of History and International Studies at Rowan University. She is the author of Of Light and Struggle: Social Justice, Human Rights, and Accountability in Uruguay (2023) and co-editor of Uruguay in Transnational Perspective (2023). Debbie has published several articles and book chapters in journals and outlets such as the Washington Post, Philadelphia Inquirer, NACLA, Diplomacy & Statecraft, Journal of Iberian and Latin America Studies, and more.
She was a Fulbright Scholar in 2014 and has consulted with a wide range of government agencies, nonprofits, and think tanks.
Debbie received her MA and PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her BA from Vassar College. She has taught courses at a wide range of institutions including Harvard, NYU, Tufts, and Hunter College.
