Giorgi Shaishmelashvili works for Ministry of Defense of Georgia. He has extensive experience in strategy formulation and defense planning processes. In this capacity, he was in charge of elaboration of several national-level conceptual documents, including Strategic Defense Review 2017-2020. Prior to joining the MoD, he worked at the National Security Council of Georgia as a deputy head of the analytical department dealing with all-source intelligence analysis. On top of the experience in public service, Shaishmelashvil has worked in different civil society organizations as a specialist in Russian and Caucasus studies. In addition to Russia’s politics, his research interests are – Strategic Studies, Security Assistance, and Defense Institution Building etc. Shaishmelashvili holds MA in Strategic Security Studies from National Defense University (NDU, USA) and MA of Social Sciences in Eurasian and Caucasus Studies at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University.
