Harold James is Professor of History and International Affairs at the Wilson School, Princeton University, and Marie Curie Professor of History at the European University Institute, Florence. He is author of The Roman Predicament: How the Rules of International Order Create the Politics of Empire (Princeton University Press, 2006).
