Hedwig Richter

Dr. Hedwig Richter is a Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at the University of the Bundeswehr in Munich. Her wide-ranging research interests include the history of democracy and dictatorship, nineteenth- and twentieth-century Germany, and gender in history. After receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Cologne, Dr. Richter held academic fellowships in Prague and Washington D.C among others. Demokratie. Eine deutsche Affäre (2020), was longlisted for the NDR Kultur Non-Fiction Prize and shortlisted for the Bavarian Book Prize. In addition to her academic activities, Dr. Richter writes for a number of publications including Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and DIE ZEIT.
