Jaafar Alloul

Dr. Jaafar Alloul is a postdoctoral research fellow in migration sociology at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. He is also a visiting scholar in residence at Georgetown University Qatar. He holds a doctorate in social anthropology from the University of Amsterdam. His prior education includes an Erasmus Mundus MA of Excellence in Migration Studies from the University of Oldenburg, and an MA in Middle East Studies and Political Science from Ghent University. Next to academia, Dr. Alloul holds professional experience with the Belgian Federal Government’s Ministry of the Interior, as a case officer at the Office of the Commissioner General for Refugees and Stateless Persons, as well as with UN ILO’s International Training Center (ITC) in Turin. His overall research focuses on the economic development and socio-cultural transformation of the energy-rich states in the Persian Gulf, with a particular focus on Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Iran.
