Joel R. Hillison

Joel R. Hillison, Ph.D., is the Professor of National Security Studies at the U.S. Army War College and an Adjunct Professor at Gettysburg College.  Dr. Hillison has a Ph.D. in International Relations from Temple University and a Masters in Economics from the University of Oklahoma.  Hillison retired after 30 years of service in the U.S. Army.  He was a Fire Support Officer in Desert Storm and the Comptroller for Multinational Forces Iraq in 2004.  He spent six years of his career in Europe, including an assignment to the Combined Joint Planning Staff at SHAPE Headquarters in Mons, Belgium.  His book, Stepping Up: Burden Sharing by NATO’s Newest Members, was published in November 2014 by the Strategic Studies Institute.
