Lloyd C. Gardner is Charles & Mary Beard Professor of History and chair of the history department at Rutgers University. He is the author of numerous articles and books on American foreign policy and Vietnam, including Pay Any Price: Lyndon Johnson and the Wars for Vietnam (1995), and (as co-editor) On the Edge: The Early Decisions in the Vietnam War (1997). He served as the chief historical adviser for the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans Educational Exhibit. He earned a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan, and an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin.
