Pádraig Carmody is Professor in Geography at Trinity College, the University of Dublin (TCD) where he did his undergraduate and masters work and is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Johannesburg. His Ph.D. is from the University of Minnesota in the US, where after graduation he also taught at the University of Vermont. At TCD he directs the ‘Masters-in-Development Practice and CHARM-EU’. His research centers on the political economy of globalization in Africa and he has published in journals such as European Journal of Development Research, Review of African Political Economy, Economic Geography and World Development. He has also published several books, including The New Scramble for Africa (2nd ed., Polity, 2016) and the Rise of the BRICS in Africa (Zed, 2013).
