Paul Griffiths is the Arthur J. Schmitt Professor of Catholic Studies, University of Illinois. Prior to his appointment in 2000, he was a professor of South Asian Languages and Civilizations at the University of Chicago. He holds a Ph.D. in Buddhist Studies from the University of Wisconsin, an MPhil in Classical Indian Religion and Sanskrit from Oxford University, and a B.A. in Theology from Oxford. His major publications include: Exploring Religious Diversity (Basil Blackwell, 2001 forthcoming); Religious Reading (Oxford University Press, 1999); and On Being Buddha: The Classical Doctrine of Buddhahood (State University of New York Press, 1994).
