Raphael Israeli is professor of Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Chinese affairs at Hebrew University, Jerusalem, and a senior fellow at its Harry Truman Research Institute. He is author of some fifteen books and one hundred articles on Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Chinese history
