Sibel Oktay

Sibel Oktay is an associate professor and chair of the Political Science Department at the University of Illinois, Springfield, and a nonresident senior fellow of public opinion and foreign policy at The Chicago Council on Global Affairs.

She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Syracuse University’s Maxwell School in 2014. Prior to joining UIS, Sibel was a visiting predoctoral fellow at Northwestern University’s Buffett Institute for Global Studies.

Her research has been published in the European Journal of Political Research, British Journal of Politics and International Relations, Journal of European Public Policy and European Security, among others.

Sibel’s first book, Governing Abroad, investigates the impact of coalition politics, party ideology and legislative dynamics on the international commitments of parliamentary democracies.

At UIS, Sibel teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on international relations and foreign policy, European and Middle Eastern politics, and research methods.
