William LaFleur

William LaFleur is E. Dale Saunders Professor of Japanese Studies, University of Pennsylvania.  He received his Ph.d. from the University of Chicago.  His books include Freaks and Philosophers:; Minding the Body in Medieval Japan (MIT Press, forthcoming 2002); Liquid Life: Abortion and Buddhism in Japan (Princeton University Press, 1992);  and The Karma of Words” Buddhism and the Literary Arts in Medieval Japan (University of California Press, 1983).  His current book project covers “America’s Biomedical Trajectory and Its Japanese Critics.”
