Most recently, Stein was a senior fellow of the Atlantic Council in Washington DC, where he managed their Turkey-related research program. He was formerly a doctoral fellow at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (Switzerland), an Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute (London), and Nonproliferation Program Manager at the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (Istanbul).
In addition to Turkey, Aaron's research concentrates on nonproliferation in the Middle East with a focus on Iran, and non-state actors in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Kurdish groups in Syria and Iraq. He publishes regularly in Foreign Affairs and War on the Rocks, and is regularly cited in major American and foreign media, including the Washington Post, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, Al Monitor, and US News and World Report. He is also the host of both the Arms Control Wonk Podcast and the Turkey Wonk Podcast.
