A nation must think before it acts.
In this first session of Geopolitics with Granieri for 2019, we are pleased to introduce and feature a conversation with Dr. Aaron Stein, the new director of FPRI’s Middle East Program and a 2019 Templeton Fellow. Aaron will discuss the current turmoil in the Middle East, particularly the nexus of issues involving Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Russia and the controversy over the much-heralded US withdrawal from Syria.
Most recently, Stein was a senior fellow of the Atlantic Council in Washington DC, where he managed their Turkey-related research program. He was formerly a doctoral fellow at the Geneva Center for Security Policy (Switzerland), an Associate Fellow of the Royal United Services Institute (London), and Nonproliferation Program Manager at the Center for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies (Istanbul).
In addition to Turkey, Aaron's research concentrates on nonproliferation in the Middle East with a focus on Iran, and non-state actors in the Middle East, with a particular focus on Kurdish groups in Syria and Iraq. He publishes regularly in Foreign Affairs and War on the Rocks, and is regularly cited in major American and foreign media, including the Washington Post, Bloomberg, Al Jazeera, Al Monitor, and US News and World Report. He is also the host of both the Arms Control Wonk Podcast and the Turkey Wonk Podcast.
