The End of Xi’s China Dream? Chinese Commentary on COVID-19

| Asia Program

About the Event

Since the emergence of COVID-19 from Wuhan to the rest of China and the world, Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping has drawn international criticism and – surprisingly – criticism from inside the CCP itself. With his leadership now being called into question, Xi’s impulse may be to become even more confrontational, not less. Drawing upon her recent article for The American Interest, FPRI Senior Fellow Jackie Deal will discuss both the real story of China’s response to COVID-19 and the geopolitical implications of a more aggressive Chinese foreign policy going forward.
