Small State Foreign Policy: Latvia and Taiwan in Focus

May 13, 2026 | 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm

About the Event

In 2022, Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine transformed everyday life and politics for Latvia and the Baltic states. That same year, Chinese military aggression against Taiwan intensified following a US diplomatic visit and, later on, the election of Lai-Ching Te. As US attention shifts away from these conflicts and the world faces global tectonic shifts, Latvia and Taiwan must find a way to secure their political independence and future.

Join FPRI for a discussion with two experts, Kaspars Germanis and Thomas J. Shattuck, on two states that continue to warrant US engagement.
