A former speechwriter for Secretary of State Colin Powell, he has also been editor of The National Interest and has taught at the School for Advanced International Studies, the Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Haverford College. His blog “The Middle East and Beyond” appears on The American Interest website and he writes regularly for FPRI.
