Edward Turzanski Named Templeton Fellow at FPRI


We are pleased to announce the appointment of Edward A. Turzanski as FPRI’s Templeton Fellow, made possible by a contribution from FPRI’s Vice Chairman John M. Templeton, Jr.

Turzanski, who possesses extensive experience in the U.S. intelligence community, has been a long-time Senior Fellow of FPRI, and was named Co-Chair of FPRI’s Center for the Study of Terrorism earlier this year.

In his role as Templeton Fellow, he will write and speak under FPRI auspices on a wide range of national security and intelligence issues.   Turzanski regularly appears in local and national media, and is a fixture on “Inside Story,” which airs on ABCTV in Philadelphia on Sundays. He appears on more than four-dozen media outlets throughout North America and has frequently offered commentary on CNN, CNN Headline News, Fox News Channel, MSNBC, CTV News in Canada and assorted international media organizations.

He is also s a national security analyst at La Salle University, where he teaches in the Departments of History and Political Science and the M.A. Program in Central and East European Studies. In addition to his academic positions, Mr. Turzanski is Counsel to the President at La Salle University.  During the Bush (43) Administration, he was a member of the U.S. Department of Justice Anti-Terror Advisory Committee for Region III and the Department of Homeland Security Port Security Committee for the Port of Philadelphia. Tuzanski served with the U.S. Intelligence Community during the Reagan Administration, with postings throughout the Middle East, Central Asia and Eastern Europe.  He is a Life Member of the Association of Former Intelligence Officers and the National Association of Scholars, the first-ever “Scholar-in-Residence” of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, and a Senior Scholar with the American Institute for History Education (AIHE).

Turzanski is also active in numerous civic ventures in the Philadelphia region, including service as a member of the Board of Directors of the World Affairs Council of Philadelphia, the Union League of Philadelphia, the Aria Health System Hospital foundation, and as president of the National Aero-Space Training and Research (NASTAR) educational foundation.

Dr. Templeton is President of the John Templeton Foundation and served as a pediatric surgeon at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.  He graduated from Yale University and received a medical degree from Harvard Medical School. Dr. Templeton also supports FPRI’s annual Templeton Lecture on Religion and World Affairs and is a presenting sponsor of FPRI’s Annual Dinner.
