Ben Stavis

Ben Stavis is an Emeritus Professor of Political Science at Temple University. He specialized in comparative politics, with an emphasis on China, Asia, and the third world. He has served as Director of the university’s Asian Studies Program. His books include China’s Political Reforms: An Interim Report (Praeger 1988). Dr. Stavis- articles have appeared in such journals as Political Science Quarterly, Studies in Comparative Communism, Asian Survey, Modern China, and China Quarterly. His current research deals with the conversion of China’s industrial work units into more autonomous, market-responsive business enterprises. For workers to accept this change, China is creating new pension and health insurance systems that are separated from the work units. He is researching the development, experimentation, and implementation of these programs.
