Peter Beyer, Member of the German Bundestag, was directly elected in his constituency in the general elections in 2009, 2013, and 2017 to represent Heiligenhaus, Ratingen, Velbert, and Wülfrath. 

His foreign policy focus is on Latin America, the countries of the Western Balkans and their accession to the EU, as well as the Transatlantic Partnership. He was the Coordinator for transatlantic cooperation of the Federal Government at the Federal Foreign Office from 2018 to 2022, committed to a closer partnership between Europe and North America. From mid-2022 to 2025, he was also the Chairman of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group in the German Bundestag of the Enquete Commission investigating the entire period of German involvement in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2021 in order to draw lessons for foreign and security policy.
