Roger Cliff is Research Professor of Indo-Pacific Affairs at the US Army War College’s Strategic Studies Institute. His research focuses on China’s military strategy and capabilities and their implications for U.S. strategy and policy. He has published over 40 books, articles, reports, and book chapters on these topics. He has previously worked for the Center for Naval Analyses, Atlantic Council, Project 2049 Institute, RAND Corporation, and Office of the Secretary of Defense. He holds a Ph.D. in international relations from Princeton University, an M.A. in Chinese studies from the University of California, San Diego, and a B.S. in physics from Harvey Mudd College. He is fluent in spoken and written Mandarin Chinese.
