About the Event

Africa Program Chair Ambassador Charles Ray will be joined by Professor Ken Menkhaus and Mr. Abdiaziz Maahaay to discuss the impacts of climate change and violent extremism on conditions in Somalia and the prognosis for the future in light of the deployment of U.S. military forces to the country to train the Somali army for its fight against terrorist groups.

Abdiaziz Maahaay - Abdiaziz Maahaay (“Abdi”) is well-known throughout Somalia and the world-wide Somali diaspora for his more than two decades-long efforts of providing comprehensive health care services throughout Somalia to people of the least resources and making possible surgical operations for hundreds upon hundreds of Somali people suffering from birth defects and other physical deformities.

Charles A. Ray

Charles A. Ray - Charles A. Ray, a member of the Board of Trustees and Chair of the Africa Program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, served as US Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia and the Republic of Zimbabwe.
