A nation must think before it acts.

The November 3 midterm elections will reverberate well beyond America’s borders. The new balance of power in Congress will shape the final two years of the Trump administration priorities, including whether trade and tariff policy face new constraints, how defense and foreign assistance get funded, and how closely lawmakers scrutinize the White House’s handling of alliances. Capitals from Tokyo and Manila to Brussels and Berlin have been strategizing over all potential outcomes, and will now need to act upon the results. Join us for a post-election conversation on what the results mean for US relations with key partners in the Indo-Pacific and Europe, and how those partners are recalibrating.
