In this interview, Edward Turzanski, FPRI’s Templeton Fellow and the co-chair of FPRI’s Center for the Study of Terrorism, provides a rundown of the protests unfolding across the Middle East, drawing out the larger implications for U.S. interests in the region. He takes on questions dealing with how the newly elected Islamist governments in Egypt and elsewhere are coping with the rise of Salafi power in their respective countries; how these events affect U.S. financial commitments and development initiatives in the Middle East; and finally, to what extent anti-Americanism in the Middle East and North Africa is significant for U.S. policymaking.

Turzanski has lengthy experience serving in the US government in the field of intelligence covering the Middle East and Central Asia.
