One of the nation’s pre-eminent experts on terrorism, judging by the demand for his services on the part of the US and foreign governments and the national news media, Marc Sageman is the author of two critically acclaimed books: Understanding Terror Networks (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2004) and Leaderless Jihad (UPP, 2007), with a third due out explaining his new theory of radicalization and the turn to violence, which will be the subject of this talk. Sageman obtained an M.D. and Ph.D. in sociology from New York University, and served in the CIA, 1984-91.
