The Security Situation in Cameroon

Conflict between the Anglophone and Francophone communities in Cameroon began in September 2017. English-speaking separatists in the Northwest and Southwest regions launched a guerilla campaign against the government, demanding secession and the establishment of an independent English-speaking country. Conflict and open violence between the two communities has been ongoing for nearly a decade with no end in sight. With other conflicts in Africa dominating the headlines in international media, Cameroon’s civil war has been largely ignored.

 

Trustee and Africa Program Chair Ambassador Charles A. Ray will be joined by a panel of experts, including Dr. Gabriel Cyrille Nguijoi, Dr. Roger Motaze, and Michael Walsh to discuss the origins of the conflict, the current situation, and prospects for a peaceful settlement.
