Why has Russia struggled to gain influence in Asia? In this month’s People, Politics, and Prose, Ron Granieri will be joined By FPRI’s Chris Miller to discuss his new book, We Shall Be Masters: Russian Pivots to East Asia from Peter the Great to PutinGranieri and Miller will consider why Russia’s would-be pioneers have always struggled to project power into Asia and to maintain public and elite interest in their far-flung pursuits.  

People, Politics, and Prose with Ron Granieri features in-depth conversations with authors of recent books on international affairs and national security. Moderated by FPRI’s Ronald J. Granieri, each session will build on the book’s contents to discuss the author’s influences and motivations, relating everything to current events to elicit a broader understanding of the geographical, political, and historical context of our contemporary world.

Chris Miller - Chris Miller is the Director in the Foreign Policy Research Institute’s Eurasia Program. He is also Assistant Professor of International History at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

Ronald J. Granieri

Ronald J. Granieri - Ronald J. Granieri is a Templeton Fellow, Executive Director of the Center for the Study of America and the West, and Host of Geopolitics with Granieri at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.
