People, Politics and Prose: Gems of American History ft. Walter McDougall

About the Event

In this month's People, Politics, and Prose, FPRI's Walter McDougall joins Ron Granieri to discuss his latest book The Lecturer's Art: Gems of American History (Encounter Books).

For decades, in books, articles, and spellbinding lectures, Walter McDougall has helped students and audiences of all ages better understand the people and forces that have shaped the history of the United States and its role in the world. With his keen eye for the telling anecdote and his understanding of the big picture, McDougall has taken readers from the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles to the Bering Strait, from Independence Hall to the Moon.

In his latest book, a collection of twelve essays on a range of topics, McDougall examines some of the most pivotal events and figures of American history, dissecting with skill and wit how this extraordinary republic came to be—and what is required to preserve its legacy of liberty.

People, Politics, and Prose with Ron Granieri features in-depth conversations with authors of recent books on international affairs and national security. Each session will build on the book’s contents to discuss the author’s influences and motivations, relating everything to current events to elicit a broader understanding of the geographical, political, and historical context of our contemporary world.
