Preparing for the Long Game: US Strategy in a Protracted China Conflict

May 28, 2025 | 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm | Asia Program

About the Event

FPRI Asia Program Director Michael Beckley is joined by Dr. Sheena Chestnut Greitens do discuss her recent article in The Washington Quarterly. The discussion will explore how a US-China conflict could unfold not as a short, decisive clash but as a prolonged, multi-domain struggle—spanning Taiwan, the South China Sea, cyberspace, and more. Together, they will examine why current US defense planning is unprepared for such a scenario and what strategic shifts are needed to better anticipate and manage the risks of a long war.
