Stabilizing US-China Relations: Perspectives from China

July 31, 2025 | 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm | Asia Program

About the Event

After considerable fluctuation over the past 6 months, the US - China trade relationship appears to be stabilizing for the moment, following negotiations in Geneva and London, with another round now scheduled in Stockholm. The prospect that President Trump may visit China later this year for a summit with Chinese leader Xi Jinping also appears to be growing by the day. What are the range of possibilities for the bilateral relationship in the near future, what might a trade deal (or “truce”) accomplish, and what areas of friction would likely remain?

FPRI Asia Program Senior Fellow Neysun Mahboubi will share his views –– informed by his just-completed two month visit to China, accompanying American students and scholars in wide-ranging discussions –– in conversation with the Philadelphia Inquirer’s Trudy Rubin.
