A nation must think before it acts.
On Saturday and Sunday, April 20-21, 40 high school teachers from 24 states will participate in a conference on “Great Captains in American History,” focusing on great American military leaders from General Washington to General Petraeus. This is the 8th conference on topics in American military history sponsored jointly by the Foreign Policy Research Institute and the First Division Museum at Cantigny — specifically for high school teachers. The conference will be held at the First Division Museum in Wheaton, IL.

We are no longer accepting applications for participation in this weekend conference but future conferences are planned for September 28-29 in Philadelphia on “The Creation of Liberal Democracy: Did It Happen in Philadelphia by Accident?” and on November 2-3 in Pittsburgh on “The Invention of the Modern Middle East, Post World War I, and the Reinvention of the Middle East, Post Arab Spring.”
FPRI’s Madeleine and W. W. Keen Butcher History Institute sponsors 2-3 weekend-long conferences a year for high school teachers on topics in American and world history and international relations. The Butcher History Institute is chaired by David Eisenhower and Pulitzer Prizewinning historian Walter A. McDougall. Since 1996, these History Institutes have garnered a national reputation for excellence and have worked with teachers from 681 high schools in 46 states.
