This special edition of Orbis: FPRI’s Journal of World Affairs is dedicated to the topic of Taiwan in the Tsai Era. Guest editors Jacques deLisle and June Teufel Dreyer have chosen topics that address a myriad of issues: the rise of the Democratic Progressive Party, the fall of the Kuomintang, the effect of social movements, and Taiwan’s relations with other states, among others. Tsai’s historic victory is, no doubt, a milestone for not only Taiwan, but also democracy in Asia. This edition seeks to determine the implications of her triumph and how much of an impact it will truly have in Taiwan and throughout the region.
