Samuel Helfont, FPRI Adjunct Scholar, is the author of Yusuf al-Qaradawi: Islam and Modernity (Moshe Dayan Center, 2009) and the FPRI monograph The Sunni Divide: Understanding Politics and Terrorism in the Arab Middle East. He is a Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellow in Princeton University´s Department of Near Eastern Studies, where he is pursuing a Ph.D. He is also an Iraq war veteran and continues to serve as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.
