Samuel J. Savitz, founder and chairman of The Savitz Organization, is one of Philadelphia’s leading citizens and a major contributor to the City’s cultural development, as demonstrated by his membership on the boards of such institutions as the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Mann Center for the Performing Arts, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Philly Pops, the National Liberty Museum, the National Museum of American Jewish History and, of course, the Foreign Policy Research Institute. He serves on FPRI’s Executive Committee and chairs the Nomination/Development Committee. Sam has also served his industry as a past president of the American Society of Pension Actuaries and a member of its board. He served in the Army Reserves as a member of the 429th Civil Affairs/Military Government unit.

Kenneth Pollack served on the staff of the National Security Council as Director for Persian Gulf Affairs (1999-2001) and Director for Near East and South Asian Affairs (1995-96), and as the CIA’s Iraq-Iran military analyst (1988-95). He is now Director of Research for the Saban Center for Middle Eastern Studies at the Brookings Institution and a regular presence on the national broadcast media. His books include The Threatening Storm (Random House, 2002) and Arabs at War: Military Effectiveness, 1948-1991 (University of Nebraska Press, 2002). He received his Ph.D. from MIT.
